Power of Organic – The Gerson Diet

Couple of days back, while surfing for movies on Netflix, I happened to come across the documentary, “The Gerson Miracle”, and I must say it was an eye opener. Although there are speculations around the effectiveness and practicality of the Gerson diet in curing a terminal disease, this documentary made me believe that it is definitely a proactive step towards preventing one from happening.

Juicing: According to the diet, a person suffering from any degenerative disease is supposed to consume 13 8oz of fresh fruit and vegetable juice everyday. The essentials vitamin and minerals from the vegetables when consumed in the form of juice flows into your blood stream faster and tends to be more effective.

Potassium-Sodium Balance: Potassium is known to restore dysfunctional cells that have been damaged by excess sodium. We do not realize how much sodium we intake on a daily basis, especially if you are a fan of the “canned foods” or “frozen dinners”. Try not to fall for convenience!

Of course I cannot strictly follow the Gerson diet with the busy life I lead, but I try to incorporate pieces of it and the biggest thing I have been focussing on is eating as much organic and fresh produce as possible. Making conscious effort towards choosing vegetarian options including lots of broccoli and spinach, has made a huge difference in the way I feel. I also have been choosing to get my protein for the day through beans and lentil soups and quinoa, whose protein content is extremely high.

So the next time you go grocery shopping, please read beyond the calorie content! Your body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean.
