Holiday Food Coma – 5 Ways to Prevent It

Standard

eating at holiday parties

With the onset of fall/winter, and Halloween, we have officially entered the holiday season aka. eat-till-you-drop season. Most of us have worked extremely hard all year to look our fabulous best on Christmas day, or new years night, or be able to easily fit into that dress we bought last Christmas, and made a promise to fit into it next Christmas. Whatever motivation you had all year, you do not want to let it all go to waste by overeating at a holiday party. So here are 5 ways to prevent having a food coma-

Arrive Tummy full – Most people tend to starve themselves all day before a big lunch/dinner. That is definitely not a wise thing to do if you are trying hard to keep the pounds off during the holidays. One of my tried and tested idea is to eat a meal before you go to a party, so the chances of you over-eating are slim! And you can eat very little of pretty much everything!

Protien and Veggie Centric – Target the veggies first, if you happen to get to the party hungry. Broccolis, baby carrots, green beans, asparagus, salads, are low in carb and fill you up quickly. And for the main entrée, go heavy on white meat – chicken breast, fish fillets, turkey breast, etc. If there are fruits available, there’s nothing like it!

Calories in Liquid Form – Avoid gulping down cans of beer or soda. The worst way of intaking lots of calories quite easily is by drinking all of them. Choose red wine over white. White wines tend to be higher in sugar content.

Drink Lots of Water – Keep sipping on water the whole time. It will help with filling your tummy quickly.

Walk Around and Socialize – Try not to sit after a big meal. Keep yourself moving the whole time for faster digestion.

Hope this helps! Eyes on the prize people, eyes on the prize! Do not give up just yet!

Welcome to my blog! Apart from being a health and fitness freak, I love writing, and this blog is a perfect outlet for it. I am not a professional writer by any means, but would like to be someday, so I can inspire people far and wide. I am a project manager by day, and go to business school at night. I am happily married to the love of my life, and thoroughly enjoy being a stepmom to two of the most wonderful kids I know. The goal of my blog is just one word – INSPIRE. If I was able to help even one person enough to get them to change their life around for the better, I would consider myself extremely fortunate. I am super thankful to all my readers who have given me so much love and encouragement through the years. You guys rock! I will leave you with one quote – “Monotony is the awful reward of the careful. If you want to change and grow, you need to take risk” – John C. Maxwell
