Hi There!

Standard

Hey All! Yep, I know! I kinda fell off the Earth for a while there. But just so you guys know, I did not literally fall off the Earth! I mean, I cant. The Earth is round!
Jokes apart! For the last month, I have been extremely busy with something called “life”. Yep, it happened to me again. One of those times when all kinds of situations fall on your lap, all at once. But lets not get into that too much. All I can say, everythings fine and pleasant now!

Do You Have “Grit”?

Standard

true grit
I make it a point to listen/watch an inspirational/motivational audio/video every morning, while getting ready or while driving to work. Doing that small act everyday gives me the fuel I need to take on the day and make it the most productive and happy day for myself. So this past Monday morning, while having breakfast I stumbled upon a TED Talk by Angela Lee Duckworth. In a nutshell, her talk was about understanding what truly makes a child successful at school. Is it IQ? Is it extraordinary memorization skills? Based on her years of research, her findings show that the one single trait that separates the kids that do well in school versus the ones that do not is GRIT – extreme passion for a goal and having the tenacity to stick with it until it is achieved and beyond. For example – a marathon runner.

The Key to Success? Grit

The beauty of that talk is that each and everyone of us can relate to it. We all know that when we really want to achieve a goal, when we set our mind on it and decide to not let anything deter us, the results are usually in our favor. I challenge each of you to pick a goal for yourself today and decide to stick with it. If it is about getting in the best shape of your life, or taking your health to the next level, or creating better relationships in your life, try to display world class GRIT and determination to make those goals a reality.

Often times we find ourselves surrounded by the HOWs and the BUTs and the IFs. Don’t let these stumbling blocks question your goals and dampen your spirit. We still have half of 2013 left – which means that theres still time to pick up those new years resolutions you made 6 months back, and achieve them! I invite you to do the following few things to help you achieve your goals –

  • Create an intentions list (one that is achievable – maybe 6 months)
  • Create a vision board of all the things you want in your life and pin this 6 months intentions list on it.
  • Look at this intentions list everyday and remind yourself of your goals. This will help you stick to it.
  • If you slip, push yourself to get back.

Try this for 40 days and it will become a habit. Then share with me your experiences! If you need any help, please leave me a message!
Have a fantastic day!

Rest Days
Importance of Rest Days:-

Whether you are a runner, a swimmer, a figure skater or simply crazy about losing pounds, reassess your workout regimen and see if you might be overdoing it. Today’s materialistic society has eliminated the idea of having a natural human body. The thoughts of the “six pack abs” and “size 00” have taken over the world. Which in reality is a wrong target to aim at. And people are working and pushing their body harder than what is needed. The aim should be to lead a healthy and hollistic life through exercising, good diet and a winning attitude. And that can only happen if your body is in the best condition to do so.

Have you had one of those days when you wake one morning and you have to “peel” yourself off the bed because your muscles are so sore? I know I have. That’s your body telling you that you need to get some rest. Rest days are super important because it is then when the body adapts to the stress from the new exercises and the effect from your workout takes place. Your workouts cause muscle tissue breakdown and during the recovery period is when your body repairs the damaged tissues as well as replenish the energy lost during the exercising.

So here are few things you could do to take a break:

Laila Ali Was In Town!

LailaAli

Thanks to my university (University of St. Thomas), I had the privilegeĀ of meeting and greeting one of the most inspiring and influential women in the world, Laila Ali. She is not only known as Muhammed Ali’s daughter and the one to carry on his boxing legacy, but she has proven to be much more. She carved a niche for herself in women’s boxing championship and with sheer hardwork and dedication proved to be a world champion. She is now a mother of two beautiful kids and happily married.

Her talkĀ involved topics of healthy eating and staying fit in order to increase the longevity of one’s life. She was atĀ USTĀ to inspire college kids to start being more aware of their health at an early stage itself. My biggest takeaways from the talk were:

Seriously! What Can We Eat?

Standard

food frustration

This question has been bugging me for quite sometime now. I am one week into my extremely clean diet without workout challenge. And I must say, I’ve been successful in losing those tough pounds that I had been trying to for quite sometime. But, eating clean is not easy. The not easy part is the constantly coming up with ideas and searching for good healthy items. My weekly grocery shopping time just doubled, and so did my grocery bill! But it is something I am willing to let go for my health. But at the end of a few days, its more or less annoying.

The other issue is that the more health articles I read and youtube videos I watch, the bigger my list of “what you cannot eat” gets. Everything I used to love eating, has now been moved to the “cannot eat” list, leaving barely a few items on the “you can eat” list. So now I have to find ways of being creative with those few items along with the craziness of work and school! Go time management! However I have found a way to make my eating habits fun, and here’s what I do:
